Day 33: A Missed Double
Friday’s program called for a 1100 yard swim that included 3-200 yard intervals swam at “race pace” with 20 second rest periods between each interval. It also called for a 4.5 mile run including hill sprints. Friday was also Holden’s class field trip to Ano Nuevo to see the Elephant Seals and I was one of the class drivers/chaperones. These two things (training and class field trip) did not work together.
Typically I head to the pool early in the morning. There is less traffic, the pool is empty, and it works well with my home/work schedule. Then, for double-sessions, I typically do my running at lunch either on a treadmill at my gym or around my office. This schedule typically works well on all fronts.
Because of the field trip my swim training got pushed to the evening. This didn’t leave enough time to get my run in. This is the first time since my first week of training that I’ve missed a training. I was angry that I missed a training but had realized that I need to deal with these things. Sometimes these come up and I just won’t be able to do all the things I want. Ultimately I’m glad that it was the run that I missed. The less wear-and-tear I put on my knee the better.
